  • Verify that finished lenses are ground to specifications.
  • Prepare work orders and instructions for grinding lenses and fabricating eyeglasses.
  • Measure patients’ bridge and eye size, temple length, vertex distance, pupillary distance, and optical centers of eyes, using measuring devices.
  • Heat, shape, or bend plastic or metal frames to adjust eyeglasses to fit patients.
  • Evaluate prescriptions in conjunction with the patients’ lifestyle.
  • Assist patients in selecting fashionable frames according to their optical prescriptions.
  • Work with labs to know what is and is not available for prescription lenses.
  • Maintain records of patient prescriptions, work orders, and payments.
  • Recommend specific lenses, lens coatings, and frames to suit patient needs.
  • Instruct patients in how to wear and care for eyeglasses.
  • Sell goods such as contact lenses, spectacles, sunglasses, and other goods related to eyes in general.
  • Determine patients’ current lens prescriptions, when necessary, using lensometers or lens analyzers and patients’ eyeglasses.
  • Show patients how to insert, remove, and care for their contact lenses.
  • Assemble eyeglasses fitting the lenses into frames.
  • Obtain a patient’s previous record, or verify a prescription with the examining optometrist or ophthalmologist.
  • Order and purchase frames and lenses.
  • Verify, submit and bill patient insurance information.
  • Performing simple bookkeeping such as collecting all patient balances and co-pays and post accurately.
  • Inventory eyewear shipped from the lab.
  • Know how to do minor repairs.
  • Notify patients when eyewear is available for pick-up.
  • Arrange and maintain displays of optical merchandise.
  • Clean, dust and keep Optical area clutter free.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

We are seeking a licensed optician or possibly a registered apprentice with at least one year on-the job, paid experience for a key position at a hip,vibrant Seattle optometry clinic. We need someone with a firm command of general opticianry, personalized customer service skills, a level head, an eye for cool frames, the urge to learn, and attention to detail. Our aim is to profitably and seemlessly provide the best eye care and coolest eyewear on the West Coast.

Duties include frame/lens selection,(this should be a pleasure!) personably offering the optimal products for each individuals’ needs and potential, processing lens/ frame orders, adjustments/repairs, verifying lab work,occasionally helping receptionist answering phones ,verifying
insurance and scheduling appointments, possibly helping w/ frame buying, contact lens i/r training, and sharing light housekeeping duties.

Providing and receiving a reasonable level of cross training is expected. This is no “old boy club” and is a meritocracy.

Communication, organizational ,troubleshooting and interpersonal skills are paramount. The winning candidate will learn about and convey the value and story of our eyewear and help build and market our practice. Only the conscientious and ethical need apply.
